Graduating from the University of Birmingham in 1999 with a BA degree, and in 2000 with an MPhil research degree, I have since worked in the PR and Marketing Departments of a range of charity and public sector organisations including a number in the arts and in education.
While working in London for a number of years, I was employed by the Federation of British Artists, the Mall Galleries, and King’s College London. I was lucky enough to be in the public relations team that worked on the 175th anniversary celebrations of King’s College London, which included a Commemoration Oration by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a Duke of Wellington re-enactment performance, and a VIP service in Westminster Abbey.
I was also involved in the media work linked to the Annual Exhibition of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, amongst others, and on one occasion assisted with the promotions around a special exhibition of portraits of H.M. The Queen.
I have since relocated to Leeds where I married and had two children. I now well and truly call West Yorkshire my home! Before making the transition to freelance work, I worked at Park Lane College and at Leeds City College.
The team and I led on the award-winning public-relations campaign and rebranding of Leeds City College, to establish it as the third largest further education institution in the UK.
Most recently I have specialised in internal communications and copywriting, and have a lot of experience in the field of corporate communications. I have written text for annual reports, prospectuses, promotional brochures, and funding / awards bid, all alongside creating copy for smaller publications, social media, and websites.
Over the last 17 years I have had responsibility for corporate communications, working alongside Human Resources, Senior Management, and Support Services teams. I have promoted the work of individual faculties, business projects, and enterprise start-up companies, most recently leading a communications and digital marketing team in the education sector.
