Freelance copywriting and communications consultancy for education, arts, not-for-profit sectors, and organisations striving for positive social impact.
Welcome to Sharpe Communications, managed by Kathy Sharpe BA, MPhil, MCIPR, CIPR Accredited PR Practitioner. I am an award-winning freelance copywriter and communications consultant in Leeds with a background in the education, charity, not-for-profit, and arts sectors.
I have worked in marketing communications for 18 years and am passionate about writing that has a positive social impact. I am a member of the Professional Copywriters’ Network, the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, and have CIPR Accredited PR Practitioner status.
I specialise in education copywriting, proofreading, editing, external and internal communications, public relations, crisis / change planning, and marketing training.
I have also written many successful awards bids for colleges, including a PRWeek ‘Decade of Achievement’ Award for Internal Communications, Educate North Award, CIPR and CIM awards, and other specialist sector awards such an International Downtown Association (IDA) Excellence Award, collected in Texas by LeedsBID.
Whatever your copywriting requirement – reports, documents, awards bids, marketing materials, press releases, proofreading, editing, blogs, web pages – please get in touch to discuss this further.
Graduating from the University of Birmingham in 1999 with a BA English/Art History degree, and in 2000 with an MPhil Art History research degree, I have since worked in the PR and Marketing Departments of a range of education and public sector organisations.
I was employed by the Federation of British Artists, the Mall Galleries, and King’s College London, and was lucky enough to be in the public relations team that worked on the 175th anniversary celebrations of King’s College London.
I was also involved in the media work linked to the Annual Exhibition of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, amongst others, and assisted with the promotions around a special exhibition of portraits of H.M. The Queen.
I have since relocated to Leeds where I married and had two children. I now well and truly call West Yorkshire my home! Before making the transition to freelance work, I worked at Park Lane College and at Leeds City College.
Following a large-scale merger of three local colleges in 2009, I was part of the marketing team that led on the award-winning public-relations campaign and rebranding of Leeds City College, to establish it as the third largest further education institution in the UK.
Over the last 18 years I have had responsibility for corporate communications, working alongside Human Resources, Senior Management, and Support Services teams. I have promoted the work of individual faculties, business projects, and enterprise start-up companies, most recently leading a communications and digital marketing team in the further education sector.
